JANE BADLER INTERVIEW PART TWO given to ILANA
RAPP of Ilana's V Site
IR: On your long flight from
Australia to Vancouver, what was going through
your head most of the time? Did you watch any
on-flight movies or were you unable to
concentrate?
JB: I was thinking, "What the hell have I
started?" All very surreal; out of the
comfort of my beautiful family plunged into the
unknown.
IR: Did you have an
opportunity to meet any cast members before your
first day of filming, which is 8/16/2010? If
so, who did you meet? Reactions?
JB: Yes I have met most of the cast
members. They are all very friendly and down to
earth.
IR: On the
days you are NOT filming, what are you planning
on doing?
JB: Hmmm. Stiil figuring that one
out. It has been hard as I am a guest artist so
I don't have family or friends here. I'm
still uncertain as to how long I am here.
Trying to stay fit in body and mind. Seeing
films, learning lines and reading good books.
IR: Unlike
the 1980's "V," the ABC "V" does not have any
physical "ships." It's all green screen.
Do you find it easy or difficult to work with
green
screen.
JB: Today is my first day with green
screen so I will have to let you know.
IR: What is your
technique for memorizing your lines? Do you
read the entire script or just go over your
scenes?
JB: When I am new to a production I like
to learn lines well in advance so they are
second nature. I tend to learn section by
section and lots of repetition.
IR: During your
"V" stay, will there be any alotted time for you
to return home to Australia or will you be
staying in the area the entire time?
JB: No, I will be getting home as soon as I can
have some time off.

FIRST INTERVIEW with JANE BADLER
since Jane took on the role of "Diana" on ABC's
V! (Thanks, Jane!)
JANE BADLER INTERVIEW PART
ONE
(From Jane: "OK
Lizard Lady. Will answer as best I can so early
in the piece.")
IR: The fans are prepared that your ABC
"V" character, Diana, may NOT be the 1980s
Diana. How are you going to play the new
character differently from the original Diana?
JB: This Diana will, of course, be very
different from the old Diana as it has been a
long time. I am no longer the young woman who
first did V. I am older and wiser and have had
many life experiences. Hopefully I will
bring all that to the role. Of course there
will be a few surprises.
IR: As an actress, are you going to create
a backstory in your head for Diana, or is a
backstory provided by the "V" team to help
create your
character?
JB: Most of the back story has been
supplied to me by the writers. Thank
goodness as it is a very different show.
IR: What the fans loved most about the
1980s Diana is her cunning, wit, sexuality and
lack of human emotion. Are you going to be able
to use
sexuality in this new role even if not
required? In other words, is everyone going to
be your prey even if UNWRITTEN in the script?
JB: Hmmmm. At this point I have only seen
one script so I am afraid that is up to the
writers. I certainly hope so. It would be a
shame not to still have that part of my
personality.
IR: What was your very first reaction when
you received the inquiry to join "V?"
JB: My first reaction was pure elation and
excitement and then the reality set in...leaving
home and my family which is always hard. Also,
the task ahead feels a bit daunting.
IR: This comes at a perfect time with your
new CD about to debut. Are you planning an
American tour?
JB: Yes it does seem to be perfect timing
for the imminent release of my album. Although
all has had to be pushed back. I am afraid I
am not thinking of an American tour right now.
My only concern is doing justice to the new V
and in my role as Diana.
IR: The new CD deals with crying. It's a well
known fact that you cry easily ... even for
happy things. Was it emotional making the new CD
and if
so, what types of emotions did you experience
while working on the CD?
JB: The only emotion I felt making the
album was sheer joy at working with the
brilliant Producer Paul Grabowsky. All the
brilliant musicians he brought to the album and
singing the songs of Jesse Shepherd and of
course recording my very first song I have ever
written.
IR: Would you like to add anything else?
JB: I must finish up by thanking all of
the many fans who have been absolutely integral
in bringing me back to the small screen in
America. Your voice has been heard and I am
deeply touched and grateful. xx Jane

JANE BADLER has
safely arrived in Vancouver! She has a
special message for us: "Please thank
everyone for all their love and support. I am
very grateful and moved."
JANE starts filming on MONDAY 8/16/2010!
Producer: 'V' Is Just Too
Complicated, Inconsistent
It's no secret that there were numerous
problems behind the scenes on ABC's "V." For a start, the
series lost its showrunner, Scott Peters, only four episodes
in and the overall arc of the story had to be realigned.
However, what may not be apparent is just
how directionless the series was after the upheaval and how
much work was needed to re-create "V" into a working
television series without stepping on the toes of the
original four-episode story.
"It was tough in the beginning," producer
Scott Rosenbaum told The Futon Critic. "I had to create the
mythology but then also back-track it so that it made sense
with what the first four episodes" had set up.
In the first batch of episodes, "V"
focused more on the arrival of the Visitors and their impact
on society, as well as placing them in locations where they
could influence the human race. Once the series returned
from its extended break for the final run of episodes, the
show focused more on the re-emergence of the Fifth Column
and hints toward a coming war for the Earth.
However, one thing in short supply was
answers on what the Visitors are really up to and why they
are so interested in tagging the human race.
"In a complicated show that needs a
mythology, you have to have ... answers," Rosenbaum said. "I
think the reason the show had some problems in the beginning
was because there weren't answers to the questions" being
posed.
How will that change in Season 2? Well,
Rosenbaum insists he now knows who these aliens are and
where they come from ... something that will change -- and
maybe even expand upon –- some of the original series.
"Going into Season 2, I spent a lot of
time completely solving the mythology [and working out]
where [the aliens] came from, where they'd been before Earth
[and] why they're at Earth," he said."They're a little
different than a typical alien. You're going to understand
what they are, how they were created and what they consist
of. They're not necessarily just lizards."
"V" is expected to return to ABC in
November. It stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Joel Gretsch, Scott
Wolf and Morena Baccarin.

07/27/10 - Our Creator, KENNETH JOHNSON, gives
Ilana and the fans more insight to "V."
IR: What similarities and differences will
there be with V The Film vs. V: The Second
Generation novel?
KJ:
V-- The Movie is based upon my original
miniseries, updated and brought into the 21st
Century. VTSG is a sequel that takes place two
decades later.
IR:
What year did you write the original V: The
Second Generation novel?
KJ:
The novel was published in 2008 based on the
VTSG sequel miniseries I had written for NBC
about two years earlier.
IR:
There are lots of emotional moments in V: TSG
the novel, as well as in all of your TV series.
Did you grow up sensitive to people's emotions
or did you learn how to write like that by trial
and error?
KJ:
I have always been drawn in by the emotional
structure and the characters in any story, novel
or movie. Exploration of the human character and
relationships are what I have always enjoyed and
focused on. I think that's why my work in
speculative fiction has always attracted as many
females as males -- highly unusual for sci-fi
projects.
IR:
When writing a script or a novel, do you jot
ideas down first and then turn them into
something or do you just sit in front of the
computer and
write from beginning to end?
KJ:
I conceptualize, do a tremendous amount of
detailed research which sparks unexpected ideas,
then spend a lot of time letting my imagination
go wherever it will making notes in a stream of
consciousness way, then begin to organize the
many ideas into a dramatic structure, then craft
an outline which gets reworked and refined many
times...only then do I begin to write the
fully realized story or screenplay.
IR:
Will you add a character named Ilana into your V
film?
KJ:
Now why would I do that????
IR:
What are your thoughts on ABC's "V" bringing
back one or some of the original V actors?
KJ:
Always nice to see my friends working, but it
seems like it might be pretty incongruous and
confusing.

07/27/10 - ABC V's DVDs pushed back AGAIN to
Nov. 2nd, 2010. (Day before the original air
date of S1 which was Nov 3, 2009.) Read
the article at
TVShowsOnDVD.com
In a tremendous executive shakeup, Steve McPherson is stepping
down as entertainment president at ABC, while ABC Family chief
Paul Lee is taking his place.
McPherson has reached an
agreement to sever his deal with Disney, whose ABC entertainment
division he has run for six years. Last year he took control of
ABC Studios as well, a shakeup that resulted in the departure of
studio chief Mark Pedowitz.
“I want to thank the wonderful team of individuals who have
worked with me throughout my time [at ABC] and wish them nothing
but the best,” McPherson said in a statement. “I will be
announcing my future plans shortly which will include a new
entrepreneurial venture in the spirits business. While I will
continue with
my ongoing wine business, I’ll also reveal plans for my
involvement in a new media company.”
Insiders are citing Lee as McPherson’s replacement, though
ABC has yet to make an announcement.
Lee has been at ABC Family since 2004 and has helped reinvent
the network with original programming such as “Secret Life of
the American Teenager” and “Greek,” as well as branded events
like “25 Days of Christmas.”
Though McPherson was credited for ordering last season’s
breakout comedy hit “Modern Family” (which rival studio 20th
Century Fox TV produced) he’s had a modest track record in
recent years for finding successful shows. ABC routinely
develops more programs than any other major broadcaster, yet has
had difficulty following up on aging hits like “Grey’s Anatomy,”
“Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” — all of which McPherson
helped develop while president of Touchstone TV.
Last season, the network tied NBC in the ratings for third
place, averaging a 2.7 among adults 18-49.
“They haven’t really done anything major since ‘Housewives,’
‘Lost’ and ‘Grey’s,’ and none of those shows generate a lot of
money going into syndication,” said a rival executive. “There’s
a performance failure the last few years. They’ve covered up a
lot with ‘Grey’s’ and ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Dancing with
the Stars.’ But it’s a very hollow schedule at this point. There
are no hits on the horizon. And while ‘Modern Family’ has done
well, it’s not like any of their other comedies that are close
to being hits. They spend money like drunken sailors—on talent,
on development. For what they’re spending, you’d expect bigger
results.”
Insiders also cited McPherson’s temperament. The executive is
said to have thorny relationships with other top executives,
particularly with Disney/ABC TV Group president Anne Sweeney.
“He just doesn’t play well with others,” noted one industry
insider.
Another former insider put it more harshly: “Why? Totally on
background? Because he’s f–king insane! The guy’s had one hit in
five years. I didn’t see Bob Iger living with it much longer.
And [Iger] hated his development. All of it.”
McPherson’s departure has been rumored for months, and even
the most consumer-focused of publications began to suspect
something was awry when the executive canceled the network’s
traditional upfront presentation press conference last May.
Since, McPherson has gone quiet, thought that’s hardly unusual
for the press-averse executive. Rumors began to intensify this
week after McPherson didn’t return to the office following a
vacation.
The move comes on the eve of the semi-annual Television
Critics Association’s press tour, which begins Wednesday with
CBS. On Sunday, ABC will have its executive session. Given that
the removal of an entertainment executive before the fall season
signals dissatisfaction with the upcoming slate, it will likely
be an awkward press tour for the network as it attempts to rally
media enthusiasm for McPherson’s final crop of ABC shows.

Old news, but here we go nonetheless: V Season 2
will be returning on ABC in November, 2010.

Then later in the panel, Scott was telling some

original, they don't know who the character is.)
Scott also said, according to my friend, that
Anna's mother DIANA will be seen in the end of episode

06/22/10 - Heard from
SCOTT ROSENBAUM!
He made it quite clear to me that he knows how
bad the fans want
JANE BADLER
back. Let's see what surprises get cooked
up for us. Love the fact Scott took the
time to write! xo Scott! Looking
forward to S2! (and S3, S4...)

MARIN MAY (Katie Maxwell V:TFB) looks
great all grown up!
I think she should play
Katie, the Resistance Fighter, in KJ's sequel. After all, her
parents were both killed, her sister turned into a woman in hiding ...
perfect for a young girl seeking revenge on the Visitors!
MARIN would also be great on
ABC's "V" as a new character! Look at that face!

06/22/10 -
JANE BADLER'S
appearance on the English soap "Neighbors" began
today! Character name: Diana. Ha!
See the clip
HERE.
(Thanks Dave and TheVisitorsVids!)
Meanwhile,
A dance band Crystal
Castles have sampled Jane Badler on a track
called Magic Spells. It's the line from V:TFB
where she says to Pamela while shooting her
"Don't worry dear Pamela, I'll do my scientific
best to command your fleet". It sounds so funny
and cool! Further evidence of how V has seeped
into pop culture. Check out the link here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lwuFEz_ydo
(Thanks Donal!)

Dave Hanson
has done it again!
"Just
thought I would show you the Studio Scale model I built of a Visitor
Squad ship. I used a resin cast of the front and rear parts, and I
scratch built the middle sections. Enjoy!"
Here's entire build
thread over the replica prop forum,
here's the link, with pictures and all
from start to finish.

06/04/10 - Heard from
KEN JOHNSON
with some cool news! KJ has been
considering "the
attributes and possibilities of 3-D for well
over a year. V is a project that would likely be
enhanced by the extra dimension and at this
point I am leaning in the direction of filming
it that way."
Pic taken 06/02/2010 of KJ with a
Tanker. That shirt KJ is wearing is 22 years old. We all
love the #22 !! (if you do NOT know why V fans love #22,
email
me for an explanation. You will hit yourself in the
head.)
FROM KEN JOHNSON:
"I was dubbing Short Circuit 2 at Warners and one lunch time I
took a walk around the back lot and came across them (the V ships.)
Universal would have put them on the tour, but Warners just kept
shuffling them around junk yards and finally tossed them without telling
me."

06/04/10 - Our "V" fan-friend, Kathi Graveson,
passed away on May 26th, 2010 due to surgery
complications. We hung out with her in LA
at V Con 2000 and she watched V:TO and V:TFB a
few days before surgery to hold her over. She
also pre-ordered ABC V hoping it would arrive to
keep her company during her recovery.
Kathi was such a wonderful person and had a
heart the size of the universe. She was
always helping people (a nurse!) and gave
everyone more than her 100%. I am blessed
to have known her. She will be truly missed. The funeral is
Friday, June 11th at St. Francis de Sales at
4268 LIME ST.
RIVERSIDE,
California, followed by burial and reception.
KEN JOHNSON has
sent me a personal note regarding Kathi:
"I was sorry to hear about our friend Kathi.
Please send my sympathies to her family."
I know it's difficult and frustrating for the
many great fans of V to keep hearing how we're
working hard to get the financing in order --
while it all seems to be taking forever.
Believe me, I sympathize. No one wants to be on
the set of V more than I do. But the world
economy is in the worst place it's been for
years and $50 million is a very large amount for
an "independent" film -- even for one with such
a potent, fondly remembered, international Brand
Name like V.
Please have faith that my excellent team and I
are making the most strenuous efforts. We have
dedicated countless hours, weeks and months to
conversations with potential investors. It’s a
delicate, time consuming process to weed out
truth from fiction about their ability to
actually provide the funding we need. But we are
determined to make it happen. The situation is
promising, but I don’t engage in hype. I believe
in being straight with people -- particularly
the loyal fans of V. The moment that a solid
deal is in place our friends everywhere will
immediately be given the word on this site.
Meanwhile, please hold good thoughts.
