NEW - 4/06/2011 - So far I have the following information CONFIRMED.  SCOTT WOLF IS on Hold.  LAURA VANDERVOORT is still UNDER CONTRACT if S3 is a go.  MARC SINGER and JANE BADLER have NOT been placed on hold.  I'm still waiting for confirmation or denial from the other "living" characters.  PLEASE NOTE:  A very wise person told me that just because the actors are "on hold" and/or still "under contractual obligations," it should NOT be taken as a positive OR negative sign that "V" is likely to have a third season.  In other words, do not let this news get your hopes up, even though as fans, we always hope for the best!

NEW - 3/28/2011 - Fantastic $$$ breakdown from a "V" fan as to why ABC should renew "V!"  Read below (Thanks Patrick!)

As posted on TVByTheNumbers by Terryjackson1nyc:

  1. I don’t think it’s a fair assumption at all that V has lost money for either ABC or WB. The problem is that, any show’s total take for an entire season does directly correlate to how many shows are aired. If you air more episodes of a hit, you’ll make more money overall; if you air more episodes of a bomb, you’ll lose more. So far, ABC has been betting against V, with its 4 episodes, 8 episodes and then 10 episodes. (I guess this is because sci-fi is hard enough by itself, let alone when it is serialized and doesn’t fit your overall demographic.) Below, though, I’m going to show you why they can keep it. Some of the numbers are from various sources and are may be off here and there. Most numbers are from articles I found in Google news.

At an average of 1.9, any show without a skyrocketing budget should be able to make money. According to oft-cited numbers on TVBTN, V’s ad rates were $100,000 each this season. That’s probably about right, but I’ve read they were over $120k; I’m still going with that lower number as our starting point to do some math.

With about 19 minutes of commercials, ABC can air up to 38 30-second ads per episode (they may have run more, since every episode of V this season ran for 61 minutes, meaning another $200,000 can be made that I’m not counting). The shorter, 15 second ads cost more per second, running about $55-60K. If you don’t buy ad time in bulk, these prices can actually double, but, again, I’m assuming the lower, just so you can see how profitable V is at a minimum.

If half of V’s sellable time is filled by 30 seconds spots and the other half with 15 second ads, you’d have $1.9 million for the longer ones and $2.3 million for the shorter ones. Together, that means V is pulling in $4.2m/episode, more than double what it costs WB to produce them, if the oft-quoted $2m per episode cost is correct. If WB licenses V at 3 million per episode, WB would make a $1m profit for each 42 minute show it licenses to ABC. On the other side of the relationship, ABC would make $1.2 million, which means it is making more off of the show than WB and, therefore, the better end of the deal, as should be the case when you’re selling something meant to be resold. ABC, then, pulled in $12 million for V’s second season. And that is with the smaller figures used to make a point; that $12m/10 episode season could be up to 20% or so less than ABC actual profit.

By the time V aired this season, ABC’s new shows had all flopped (even the ones that were produced in-house). When V came along, its performance, by comparison and on its own wasn’t at all horrible, especially considering no ad money was spent on V after its third episode ran, sometime around the State of the Union. If anything, the only mistake ABC made with V was not having an 11th episode, which could have aired last week instead of that “best of the movies” special, which earned a 1.6 in V’s place, which was lower than V ever went (though, on the bright side, it probably cost nothing to make).

V has not bottomed out, as is clear by the fact that its high (2.1 for the season premiere) is only .2 above its average, (which was at 1.9, its average). Since V will be cheaper to produce next year (with fewer stars/regulars; also, the lion’s share of its effects were produced for the finale alone and are reused from episode to episode), WB might lower the licensing, but it shouldn’t have to, since ABC is making more than twice what it is paying for it.

  1. Lots of ABC shows make more money per episode than V does, but only a few of them are scripted. Last year, Desperate Housewives pulled in $5.5m in ads per episode, but, as an in-house show, all of its costs and promotional consideration fell on ABC. With a higher budget than V that is fueled by several multi-million dollar paydays casting alone probably eats up close to half of those revenues, leaving $2.7m/episode, 40% or so of which goes to the production arm of ABC, with the broadcast arm pulling in $1.6-1.8 per episode. That means DH is probably pulling in less than half a million dollars more per episode than V and that difference is going to diminish if/when new contracts are signed in the coming weeks.

So, ABC can simply license V from WB, leaving its ABC production company to a budget that is already being stretched by the rising costs of its aging hits, as well as the management of a reported dozen or so pilots with as yet undetermined individual budgets. A deal with WB to air 10-13 more episodes of V some time after November, when the season’s overall profitability is determinable, wouldn’t be a bad thing. It should definitely perform better than at least two or three early starters (if the history of any one network is has anything to say). Plus, if Body of Proof fails, they get to have at least one veteran drama that isn’t already a dinosaur.

V can happen. It can be profitable. ABC has to hedge its bets, yes, but it’s been profitable thus far and stable its entire second season, which is rare for genre and sci-fi (though it isn’t unheard of).

Had an AMAZING time with ALICE BADLER & BRIAN TOSKO (president of the Jane Badler Society) for the finale of "V!"  A fantastic episode filled with surprises even more than the surprises that were leaked!   Alice thought it would be cute if she took pics of our reactions during the show.  See pics below!

Right after the show ended, Brian and I got to speak to JANE BADLER!  Jane told me that during her death scene, she was suspended partway into the air by a crane.  Once the crane needed to go higher, there was a stunt double, and it was also a stunt double when Diana was being thrown to the ground.  What a fantastic death!!

Brian Tosko & Ilana in the "V" Sweatshirts ... a gift from JANE BADLER! These sweatshirts were only offered to cast and crew.  Thank, Jane!!

NEW - 3/11/2011 - KEN JOHNSON responds to the Mothership debate!  Please see the article written below from Patrick J. Gillease on 3/09/2011 which sparked fan Andy to share his ideas.  SEE KJ's RESPONSE AT THE BOTTOM of this post.

ANDY:
There's a wrong assumption in the article that assumes that the landing bays are in the circular indentation.  They're actually spaced outside of there on the underside of the mothership.  There are two landing bays, one above the other spaced inbetween the ships lasers.  Have a look at the following image and you'll see where they are. The indentation is the gravity drive. When we see the landing bays being used, they correspond to the landing bays highlighted in the picture. There are 26 landing bays on the original.

PATRICK:
I believe Andy is incorrect. Nobody ever said the areas he pointed to are landing bays. First he says there are only 2, then he says 26. Even his own argument is inconsistent. Plus the landing bays ARE in the circular area. We saw this in the original miniseries.

What I think REALLY is going on here is that KJ first depicted the smaller ships coming out of the ring. And I suspect he would say all the landing bays were encircled in there. But by the time he left TFB, they made an actual filming model, which I own, and some design elements were changed and/or enhanced when all they had were matte paintings for the MS in the original.

In the end, Andy and I may BOTH be right. I would ask KJ and see what he says?   We clearly saw a shuttle coming out of the ring in the original mini, so were ALL the landing bays in that ring - at least in HIS original?!

KEN JOHNSON:
We were working so fast and loose when we created the original designs -- literally over a weekend -- I don't think we ever stopped to analyze exactly where all the landing bays would be. There was never any "master blueprint" created such as one can find for Star Trek's Enterprise or The Titanic, etc..--

The first shuttle that appears does emerge from the inside center, however when it returns from the U.N. roof the camera pans it up to a bay entry point that appears to be on the outside perimeter, otherwise we'd see the "inner circle" bending off toward the left side of the frame.

Basically, we were working very impressionistically.

NEW - 3/11/2011 - MORENA BACCARIN Interview on io9 "I studied lizard sex videos on YouTube to prepare to play Anna."

NEW - 3/11/2011 - LAURA VANDERVOORT (Lisa) is in the March 7-13, 2011 TV Guide on p. 2.ays, "I watch a lot of the TLC network, like Say Yes to the Dress.  When you want to turn your mind off and just relax, it's fun.  And I'm a girl.  It's great to see these women try on dresses and hear their love stories.

NEW - 3/09/2011 - Here are some cool insights from my former partner in the 1980's "Quad V" fan club, Supreme Commander Patrick Gillease. He was commenting to me about how one of "V's" most prominent features compares between the two series, specifically the Motherships. Read on.....

In both versions of "V," the signature moment is in the beginning of each saga when the Motherships appear in our skies and take position over their target cities. Of course this was most influential in the original 1983 mini-series because it was the first time we had seen it. It was also riveting in the ABC version, but by then, the impact was less since it had already been done before, and the movie "Independence Day" ripped off "V" with their entire premise years afterwards.

The original Motherships were classic in their simplistic and streamlined design: a traditional, perfectly round saucer, aimed after humanity's typical view of what a UFO looks like, only much grander in scale at three miles wide for each. What an imposing presence these 50 ships took on as they flew in from space and hovered over our global cities.

ABC's "V" design team decided they wanted to contemporize the Motherships and make them a little more specific, rather than just aping the original saucer design. At first, this annoyed me as a fan, but I quickly grew to appreciate the new Motherships when I read an article about their design cues, which many of you may not know. Each Mothership is fashioned from the head of Earth's Cobra snake since the Visitors are reptiles themselves. The design team rightfully thought that making them look like a genuine reptile would more accurately represent what the V's would design and fly in.

From there, the difference between the 2 Mothership designs is more pragmatic. The original Motherships had multiple landing bays, but all of them were congregated in the central circular opening in the underbelly of the ship. This made them all simultaneously vulnerable to an enemy attack. A single Mothership could conceivably have it's entire fleet of skyfighters and shuttles immobilized if an enemy attacked the Landing Bay ring. As such, it was a very bad design. Only the simple, circular nature of the original Motherships wins out in the attack comparison, because nobody could determine where the front and back of the ships were.

With ABC's Motherships, the front of each ship is the Cobra's "face", with its "eyes" slanting upwards from the "mouth" of windows on the Bridge. The stern of each ship is another row of windows in the wide-flanked rear, thus making these Motherships more vulnerable to an enemy attack since their bow and stern can be easily detected. Where they have their overall edge is in their underbellies, with not one, but SIX landing bay circles, five of which surround the main opening in the center. Now, an enemy would have to attack multiple openings to try and take out the landing bays and their fighters - something unlikely to happen. Of course, that's assuming that the ABC Motherships even have skyfighters, since after 2 seasons, we have sadly yet to see a single one?!

A final comparison can be made with ABC's stealth capabilities for its Motherships, which was something lacking in the original NBC versions. It has been divulged that these new Motherships have the capacity to "cloak" themselves into invisibility, a-la "Star Trek." This was seen in last night's terrific episode when Sid showed Hobbes and Jack the numerous blue energy signatures being given off by the 538 cloaked Motherships hovering in Earth's atmosphere, waiting to attack. This is a far-superior design over the original Motherships and a lethal feature for an enemy.

In the end, both Mothership designs have their pros and cons, but I must give the clear winning edge to the new ABC version. A classic is always a classic, but just as they redesigned the "Battlestar Galactica" for the new incarnation of that epic sci-fi show to more accurately reflect a streamlined and improved design for functioning performance, I would say the same has been done with "V" and its Motherships. Now, all we can do is hope that we get to see more of the Motherships in a third season of "V," be it on ABC, The CW, SyFy Channel, or some other venue. Cross your lizard claws !!

NEW - 2/22/2011 - Keck's Exclusives: V's Finale Bloodbath - TV Guide

Leapin' lizards! V's March 15 season finale will kill off up to one-third of its cast! With only central characters Anna (Morena Baccarin) and Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) safe, executive producer Scott Rosenbaum says two or "possibly even three" of the following actors have been let go: Scott Wolf (Chad), Logan Huffman (Tyler), Morris Chestnut (Ryan), Joel Gretsch (Father Jack), Laura Vandervoort (Lisa) and Jane Badler (Diana). Hoping the bold move will get him a third-season renewal from ABC, Rosenbaum says he chose his victims based on "what would be most devastating for the characters I want to continue."
"People are going to be shocked," promises Laura, sounding as if she made the cut. "When we read the script there was initially shock, then sadness." So who got the ax? Considering Laura says the firings were like "seeing your son go off to college or grandma passing," I'm guessing college-age Tyler, Granny Diana and underused Chad may not be long for this world.

But V isn't waiting until the big deaths to amp up the drama. The show is about to revive the original '80s miniseries' parallels to Nazi Germany. In the March 1 episode, Anna unveils a machine that extracts Earthlings' most attractive DNA traits (beauty, fertility, immunity, strength, intelligence) as part of her plan to breed an interplanetary Master Race, while annihilating those she deems inferior. "There is obviously a comparison to Hitler," says Laura. "I think it makes for good television, but I don't know how I feel about it. It's a good thing to remember the past, but it's creepy and not easy to think about."

NEW - 2/22/2011 - V: Devil in a Blue Dress (3/8)

ANNA IS ABOUT TO POWER UP EARTH'S FIRST BLUE ENERGY REACTOR -- IS IT GOOD OR BAD FOR HUMANS? -- AND DIANA TELLS LISA TO FULFILL HER DESTINY, ON ABC'S "V"

"Devil in a Blue Dress" - Anna is about to pull the switch on the planet's first Blue Energy reactor, but Sid realizes that the size of the reactor is much too large for just the various Concordia sites - the Fifth Column needs to figure out what Anna is really up to. And Diana tells Lisa she must act against Anna now, fulfill her destiny and save humans from annihilation, on "V," TUESDAY, MARCH 8 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC.

"V" stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch as Father Jack, Charles Mesure as Kyle Hobbes, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker.

Guest stars include Jane Badler as Diana, Roark Critchlow as A.D. Paul Kendrick, Mark Hildreth as Joshua, Ona Grauer as Kerry Eltoff, Christopher Shyer as Marcus, Bret Harrison as Dr. Sidney Miller, Martin Cummins as Thomas.

"Devil in a Blue Dress" was written by Hans Tobeason and directed by Ralph Hemecker.

Anna meanwhile, growing closer in her plan to destroy humanity, finds a major obstacle in a certain Live Aboard candidate; and Ryan sneaks back onto the Mothership to try and rescue his daughter, on "V," TUESDAY, MARCH 1 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC.

Guest stars include Jane Badler as Diana, Mark Hildreth as Joshua, Ona Grauer as Kerry Eltoff, Christopher Shyer as Marcus, Bret Harrison as Dr. Sidney Miller, Martin Cummins as Thomas.

NEW - 2/09/2011 - 'V' to end on cliffhanger? Article by Morgan Jeffery, TV Reporter

"The season season of V will end on a cliffhanger, reports suggest.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show's writing team have decided to leave several story arcs unresolved, despite the show's middling ratings.

The most recent episode of the sci-fi drama attracted 5.7m viewers, considerably down on the 14.3m that watched the series premiere in late 2009 but only slightly below the 5.83m that watched the first season finale in May.

ABC is expected to monitor ratings for the remainder of the second season before deciding on the show's future. The network will likely make a final decision in May.

Executive producer Steve Pearlman previously insisted that a third season of V is still a possibility, while series star Elizabeth Mitchell (Erica Evans) stated that the upcoming season finale is "not a wrap-up" for the show."

NEW - 1/19/2011 - PRESS RELEASE - PRESS RELEASE - ENTERTAINMENT ABC OVERNIGHT RATINGS (FOR 1/18)

ABC Scores its Best Tuesday in 6 Weeks with Young Adults, Almost Doubling the Net's Year-Ago Performance

ABC's "No Ordinary Family" Builds Week to Week in Viewers and Young Adults

Posting a Season High in Men 18-34, ABC's "V" is No. 1 at 9pm

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
With its lineup of 2 dramas and a special edition of "20/20," ABC attracted its second-largest audience and equaled its highest Adult 18-49 number in 6 weeks - since 12/7/10. The Net continued to deliver substantial year-to-year gains on the evening, soaring over the year-ago night (1/19/10) by 3.0 million viewers (5.8 million vs. 2.8 million) and by 89% in Adults 18-49 (1.7/5 vs. 0.9/3).

"No Ordinary Family" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "No Ordinary Family" was up by 8% in Total Viewers (5.7 million) and by 20% among Adults 18-49 (1.8/5) week to week. In addition, "No Ordinary Family" registered sizeable year-to-year improvement for ABC in the hour, up by 3.6 million viewers (5.7 million vs. 2.1 million) and by 157% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5 vs. 0.7/2) from the year-ago night.

"V" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Building on its lead-in among Adults 18-49 (+11%), ABC's "V" posted gains over the previous week among young adults against original competition on CBS ("NCIS: Los Angeles"), NBC ("The Biggest Loser: Couples") and Fox ("Million Dollar Money Drop"). "V" improved the 9 o'clock hour by impressive margins in Total Viewers (+90% - 5.7 million vs. 3.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (+67% - 2.0/5 vs. 1.2/3) over the same night last year.

* The ABC drama posted a season-high in Men 18-34 (1.5/5) and beat out its broadcast rivals to rank No. 1 (tie) at 9:00 p.m.

"20/20" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
A special edition of ABC's "20/20" at 10:00 p.m., featuring Capt. Mark Kelly in his first television interview since the shootings in Tucson, generated the Net's best time period numbers in 6 weeks in Total Viewers (6.2 million), Adults 18-49 (1.3/4) and Adults 25-54 (1.9/5) - since 12/7/10. The "20/20" special boosted its time slot by wide margins from the year-ago night by 84% in Total Viewers, by 44% in Adults 18-49 and by 58% in Adults 25-54.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 39% currently, from 35% at the same point in 2010. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

NEW - 1/19/2011 - ABC Primetime Ratings Report For the week of January 10, 2011

Building on its lead-in among viewers (+9%) and young adults (+27%) against CBS’ original “NCIS: Los Angeles” and the second hour of NBC’s 2-hour “The Biggest Loser: Couples,” ABC’s “V”defeated Fox’s “Million Dollar Money Drop” in Total Viewers (5.8 million vs. 5.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.9/5 vs. 1.8/5). Despite increased competition in the hour this week from a first-run airing of CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles,” ABC’s “V” showed strong retention of its week-ago season opener in Total Viewers (88%) and Adults 18-49 (90%).

NEW - 1/11/2011 - From fan PATRICK GILLEASE - "I am rewatching the pilot right now to see what else (if anything) ABC cut out Saturday night besides the ear cutting scene. They must have gotten complaints from viewers that this scene was too gorey for the 8pm hour. But, it was actually MULTIPLE scenes that kept flashing back and forth during Anna's interview with Chad that got cut. Her interview was longer in the pilot and things she said to Chad were also cut, and so was Georgie's explanation about what the V's are and why they're here. This whole sequence got cut from probably 5 minutes down to just 1 or 2. They removed a LOT here, but everything else seems intact. Odd that they would cut the most revealing part of the pilot episode in reruns!?!?!

I also just caught a significant filming error. As Georgie was ambushing Ryan outside the glass building where Ryan works to try and convert him back to The Resistance, a Vancouver tower was reflecting in the glass of the building in the background. This tower looks like the Seattle Space Needle. Yet, this is supposed to be NYC, where no circular observation towers like this exist. Major OOPS !!"

NEW - 11/25/10 - TVGuide Keck's Exclusives: Original V Star MARC SINGER Returns to ABC's V!

The excitement just keeps on building for ABC's V. Following the awesome news that Jane Badler will be appearing as Anna's evil mother Diana comes word that Jane's original V co-star Marc Singer will also be appearing on the updated version of NBC's '80s cult fave. A show source tells me exclusively that Marc, who played freedom fighter Mike Donovan in the '80s version, will be playing a new character named Lars Tremont. Lars is a member of a super top secret organization comprised of high-ranking military and government leaders from around the globe, who have long suspected that the Visitors — despite what they tell us — are very much not here in peace.

Marc, 62, is also known to sci-fi fans for his role in the 1982 film The Beastmaster and the more recent Beastmaster spin-off series, while soap fans might Remember him from Dallas or The Young & the Restless. Jane Badler will make her debut in the Jan. 4 season premiere, while Marc will pop up in the 10th episode, which is also the second season finale. The two won't share any scenes in the episode...but there's always that possibility in season three. (Fingers crossed.) Faye Grant, make sure your cell phone's charged! You might be next. NEW - 10/18/10 - Deadline reports that ABC TRIMS 'V' ORDER TO 10 EPISODES

"I hear the order of ABC's sophomore sci-fi drama V is being reduced from 13 to 10 episodes. ABC last week announced that V will return January 4 and will air in Dancing with the Stars' result show slot at 9 PM on Tuesdays, following fellow sci-fi drama No Ordinary Family. That gives V a 12-episode window until the spring season premiere of Dancing on March 29, but I hear the period is expected to include 2 preemptions, leading to V's order getting trimmed. Since the series is still filming, V producers will adjust the storyline for a proper season ending."

NEW - 10/15/10 - SEASON TWO OF “V” WILL PREMIERE JANUARY 4, 2011, ON ABC!

“V,” the thrilling drama series about the world’s first alien encounter that captivated viewers last season, will make its highly-anticipated season premiere on TUESDAY, JANUARY 4 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.

Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V’s) arrived offering us the wonders of their technology and promoting peace. While the world quickly embraced the V's as saviors, an FBI Counter Terrorist Agent, and others making up the resistance group called The Fifth Column, quickly discovered that the Visitors are not who they said they were. Will humanity stop being fooled and realize the Visitors true intentions before it becomes too late and they take over Earth?

"V," which received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For a Series, stood as television's No. 1 new drama during the 09-10 TV season in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic, delivering substantial year-to-year improvement in both of its Tuesday time periods (8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.). “V” finished No. 1 in both time periods among key Men (M18-34/M18-49).

Season Two will feature more character and lizard reveals, more details about the V’s mythology, while along the way featuring even more action and more plot twists. Viewers can expect a roller coaster ride week to week.

“V” stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch as Father Jack, Charles Mesure as Kyle Hobbes, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker. New recurring stars for this season include Jane Badler as Diana, Oded Fehr as Eli Cohn, Jay Karnes as Chris Bolling and Bret Harrison as Dr. Sidney Miller.

“V” is produced by HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers are Scott Rosenbaum, Steve Pearlman and Jace Hall.

NEW - 10/05/10 - Lunch with JANE BADLER, ALICE BADLER & their mom, ENID!  What a wonderful birthday gift!  I haven't slept in days, knowing I'd be eating with the Badler Ladies. So my eyes were all red and puffy.  JANE turned on her "mother" mode and told me she wants me to get some sleep tonight!  But of course, I can't... not with this excitement, so I said I would sleep TOMORROW night.

Yes, JANE is in NY preparing for Comic Con!  Jane started out the morning with a Starbucks double shot coffee with hardly any milk.  Talk about a pick me up!  For lunch she had a salad and water.  I ordered just a tiny fruit salad and JANE said I must eat more... "Go get a salad!"  So I did.  Then Jane disappeared and came back to the table and said, "I got you some hard boiled eggs."  SO SWEET looking after my health!

ENID settled in with a Tuna Fish salad and offered me half, but I don't eat fish or seafood.  Not because I don't like the taste, but because when I was a kid, I had 2 goldfish and so I have a mental block from eating fish.

JANE BADLER, October 5, 2010.  Gorgeous.

Then ALICE came in with this beautiful bouquet of birthday balloons for me! Thank you, Alice!  What a huge smile you put on my face!! xoxo

Over lunch, JANE and ALICE were bickering about how amazing ALICE (who can't take a compliment) looked.  You can't tell from the pics, but ALICE was wearing an amazing ruffle white shirt.  The contrast with the white shirt and her black jacket was stunning!

JANE was wearing jeans, black boots and a delicate, absolutely amazing necklace.

ENID, of course, looked fabulous, as always.

Enid doesn't use her computer, so this was the first time she was seeing the prints that Paul Fraser was kind enough to send.  I don't know who the artist is, but he/she is just brilliant!

(In pics below)
That's my Sharpie marker I bought yesterday just for this occasion.  It mysteriously disappeared (which means JANE has it.)

JANE did not reveal ONE SINGLE THING about this season, but she did tell me that the writers have gone over the top and all out, and that this season is going to be amazing!

I CAN'T WAIT!

Thanks Jane, Alice and Enid!

‘V’ Queen Alien Morena Baccarin Talks About Eating a Rat
Published on September 27, 2010 by Hollywood Exclusive by Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith

Last season, “V” fans at Comic-Con and elsewhere kept asking the show’s stunning, sexy head alien, Morena Baccarin, whether her Anna character was going to eat a rat — something that those bad folks from outer space have been seen doing on the sci-fi cult favorite. Now, with “V” production back in full swing for a November return, the Rio de Janeiro-born actress says, “It turns out I am. It’s done in a very different way than before. It’s pretty gross. It was a long, hard day at work.”

Certainly this highly anticipated bit was done via movie magic.

“A certain part of it was, but I still had to handle a huge rat all day,” she says.

Fortunately, Baccarin was still fresh from her production hiatus when the rat business went down. She spent much of her time traveling to promote “V” in Europe and in Latin America.

“I went back to Rio and to Sao Paulo. I got to spend time with my family and be there while the show was airing. To be known in my homeland — it was incredible,” she relates. The Brazilians showed her “a reaction of pride. It was the sweetest thing I ever experienced. I did a talk show there that I grew up watching. It was so surreal and wonderful,” adds the beauty, whose mother is Brazilian actress Vera Setta, and whose father, Fernando Baccarin, is in TV news.

She certainly had the chance to brush up on her Portuguese. “I do speak it. I don’t know about flawlessly. I don’t speak it that often anymore,” she says.

Baccarin also enjoyed the European leg of her promo trek. “In Barcelona and other cities, suddenly there were locals following me everywhere. We’re a No. 1 rated show in Europe.”

She’s enjoying the fan attention at this point. And though the “V” troops lead a rather insular existence while the series is in production in Vancouver, she’s OK with not having a big social life at this stage of the game.

“You work so hard to achieve success in your life and career. Now is the time to just jump in, enjoy it and do great work,” says Baccarin. Even if it involves eating rats.

NEW - 09/24/10 - JANE BADLER, MORENA BACCARIN & LAURA VANDERVOORT will be at COMIC CON NY on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010. There will be a "V" Panel at 5:15pm followed by an autograph signing.  Look for me in my "V" Tshirt!  Woo!

NEW - 09/21/10 - 'Shield' star Karnes joins 'V' cast - From Digital Spy

Jay Karnes will play a recurring role in the upcoming second season of V.

TV Guide reports that the actor will appear as FBI agent Chris Bolling in multiple episodes.

The character will be assigned to Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) as a new partner and will question her divided loyalties and her dedication to the Fifth Column.

Karnes previously starred as Detective Dutch Wagenbach on FX cop drama The Shield from 2002 to 2008. He has also played recurring roles on Sons of Anarchy and Brothers & Sisters.

His new role will see him reunited with former Shield producer and V showrunner Scott Rosenbaum.

NEW -
09/17/10 - Resident Evil Star Joins V.  IGN has the info on some cool new Fifth Column casting news.  IGN has learned an exciting bit of casting news for ABC's alien invasion series, V. Known from the blockbuster Mummy and Resident Evil film franchises, actor Oded Fehr is joining up as part of the Season 2 rebellion.

Fehr will play Eli Cohn, a leader in a new radical Fifth Column resistance movement whose hard-line stance against the Visitors poses a special new challenge for our core group of rebels, played by Elizabeth Mitchell ("Erica"), Joel Gretsch ("Jack"), Morris Chestnut ("Ryan") and Charles Mesure ("Hobbes"). [Please note on screen in S1 of "V," it's spelled "Hobbs" not "Hobbes."]

IGN had a chance to speak to Scott Rosenbaum, executive producer and showrunner of V, about this new character. "He is ex-Mossad, and one of the interesting things that we're doing with the show this year is that we're introducing a group of Fifth Column which is much more radical than our group," Rosenbaum told us. "And essentially they have a much different philosophy than our main team does. Eli's philosophy is, 'We need to attack now, strike now and start this war now,' rather than wait."

Rosenbaum explained that our heroes, because they're so outnumbered, are more of the mind of waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike and then deliver a knockout punch. "Oded's character Eli actually knows a lot more about what the Visitors are up to than our team does," he said. "And what he's learned is that the longer we wait to fight the more we play into Anna and the Visitors' hands, because everything she's doing is a Trojan Horse. The Blue Energy is a gift, but really it's just to get us all stuck on Blue Energy so they can turn it off." Rosenbaum said Erica will have to decide whether her team can get along and join up with Eli to become one united front, or if she'll have to take him down for being too extreme in his methods.

Apparently, Erica and Eli also share a mysterious, connecting, secret. "Erica does not want collateral damage, but over the course of the arc maybe she'll come to learn that he's not much different than she is," Rosenbaum revealed. "She's also going to find, and I can't tell you what it is, a very shocking reveal. The two of them have something in common that she never would have guessed."

Keck's Exclusives: Jane Badler Vamps Up V

Even though she played lizard leader Diana to wicked perfection on NBC's original V from 1983-85, Jane Badler tells me she had to fight fang and nail to get cast as an all-new version of Diana on ABC's reboot. "From the moment I heard V was coming back, it was something I was hoping to be part of, but they tested a lot of people for this role," confides Jane from the Vancouver set. "A lot of years have passed, so it feels good to win something." While this is an entirely different take on Diana — reimagined as the wicked mother of Anna (Morena Baccarin) — Jane admits it's been challenging not to slither right back into her wonderfully over-the-top '80s performance. "I'm still the way I've always been — lots of hair and eyes. A bit Raquel Welch-ish."

When V returns in November, we'll see Diana imprisoned on the mother ship in a cell designed to look like the reptilian visitors' home planet. (Don't ask Badler to describe the details, as they'll all be added via special effects.)  Who sent her there? None other than daughter Anna! "I'm the queen in exile, locked away in a dungeon for 15 years," says Jane. "It's mother abuse!"

NEW - 09/12/10 - JANE BADLER has safely arrived in Vancouver!  She starts filming Episode 3 on Tuesday.  She's also been asked to stay on for Episode 4.  Originally she was asked to be on the first 2 episodes, so they must be having fun with her character!  Lucky us!

NEW - 08/18/10 - TV Guide V Scoop: Does John May Live? by Natalie Abrams

Could a certain sexy Cylon be heading back to V when the ABC series returns?

Executive producer Scott Rosenbaum says the show isn't done with Michael Trucco's story line yet. "John May may return," he tells TVGuide.com.

When Trucco first appeared as the Fifth Column resistance leader in an April episode, it was discovered that Ryan (Morris Chestnut) had actually already killed May, as shown in a flashback.

Exclusive: V casts Michael Trucco as Fifth Column leader

But is John May actually alive? "That's what they hinted to me," Trucco tells us. "I thought, 'OK, he's dead, but he's coming back?' They're like, 'Nope, he's dead.' I wrote that off as a one-off [appearance], but they made some indication that maybe he'd come back."

Watch full episodes of V in our Online Video Guide

In the interim, Trucco has signed on to USA's legal drama Facing Kate, but since both shows shoot in Vancouver, another V cameo seems feasible. "I would do it again," the actor says. "I think it would be a great twist. I would love to resolve that character and see a little bit more into what made him John May."

Do you want John May to return?

BLOGGING “V”, VOLUME I: 10/27/08-11/03/09
Now Available For the Amazon Kindle for only $2.99

The worlds of “V”, both the new ABC version and the original incarnation from the 1980s, come together in the unofficial Blogging “V” Volume I: 10/27/08-11/03/09, a 40,000 word compilation from the Visitors Among Us news site. From the first rumblings of a new series through the show's debut in November 2009, and with retrospective entries focusing on the original 1983 miniseries as well as its 1984 sequel and  single-season TV show, this is a comprehensive guide for all “V” fans.

Among those interviewed in these pages are Morena Baccarin, Jane Badler, Elizabeth Mitchell, Marc Singer, Kenneth Johnson, Scott Rosenbaum, Laura Vandervoort, Robert Englund, visual effects experts from both series, Scott Wolf, June Chadwick, Morris Chestnut, Michael Ironside and many more.

NEW - 08/17/10 - JANE BADLER INTERVIEW PART TWO

IR:  On your long flight from Australia to Vancouver, what was going through your head most of the time?  Did you watch any on-flight movies or were you unable to concentrate?
JB:  I was thinking, "What the hell have I started?"  All very surreal; out of the comfort of my beautiful family plunged into the unknown.

IR: Did you have an opportunity to meet any cast members before your first day of filming, which is 8/16/2010?  If so, who did you meet?  Reactions?
JB:  Yes I have met most of the cast members.  They are all very friendly and down to earth.

IR:  On the days you are NOT filming, what are you planning on doing?
JB:  Hmmm.  Stiil figuring that one out.  It has been hard as I am a guest artist so I don't have family or friends here.  I'm still uncertain as to how long I am here.  Trying to stay fit in body and mind.  Seeing films, learning lines and reading good books.

IR:  Unlike the 1980's "V," the ABC "V" does not have any physical "ships."  It's all green screen.  Do you find it easy or difficult to work with green
screen.
JB:  Today is my first day with green screen so I will have to let you know.

IR:  What is your technique for memorizing your lines?  Do you read the entire script or just go over your scenes?
JB:  When  I am new to a production I like to learn lines well in advance so they are second nature.  I tend to learn section by section and lots of repetition.

IR:  During your "V" stay, will there be any alotted time for you to return home to Australia or will you be staying in the area the entire time?
JB: No, I will be getting home as soon as I can have some time off.

NEW - 08/16/10 - Ilana awarded FIRST INTERVIEW with JANE BADLER since Jane took on the role of "Diana" on ABC's V! (Thanks, Jane!)

JANE BADLER INTERVIEW PART ONE

(From Jane:  "OK Lizard Lady.  Will answer as best I can so early in the piece.")

IR:  The fans are prepared that your ABC "V" character, Diana, may NOT be the 1980s Diana.  How are you going to play the new character differently from the original Diana?
JB:  This Diana will, of course, be very different from the old Diana as it has been a long time.  I am no longer the young woman who first did V.  I am older and wiser and have had many life experiences.  Hopefully I will bring all that to the role.  Of course there will be a few surprises.

IR:  As an actress, are you going to create a backstory in your head for Diana, or is a backstory provided by the "V" team to help create your
character?
JB:  Most of the back story has been supplied to me by the writers.  Thank goodness as it is a very different show.

IR:  What the fans loved most about the 1980s Diana is her cunning, wit, sexuality and lack of human emotion.  Are you going to be able to use
sexuality in this new role even if not required?  In other words, is everyone going to be your prey even if UNWRITTEN in the script?
JB:  Hmmmm.  At this point I have only seen one script so I am afraid that is up to the writers.  I certainly hope so.  It would be a shame not to still have that part of my personality.

IR:  What was your very first reaction when you received the inquiry to join "V?"
JB:  My first reaction was pure elation and excitement and then the reality set in...leaving home and my family which is always hard.  Also, the task ahead feels a bit daunting.

IR:  This comes at a perfect time with your new CD about to debut.  Are you planning an American tour?
JB:  Yes it does seem to be perfect timing for the imminent release of my album.  Although all has had to  be pushed back.  I am afraid I am not thinking of an American tour right now.  My only concern is doing justice to the new V and in my role as Diana.

IR:  The new CD deals with crying.  It's a well known fact that you cry easily ... even for happy things. Was it emotional making the new CD and if
so, what types of emotions did you experience while working on the CD?
JB:  The only emotion I felt making the album was sheer joy at working with the brilliant Producer Paul Grabowsky.  All the brilliant musicians he brought to the album and singing the songs of Jesse Shepherd and of course recording my very first song I have ever written.

IR:  Would you like to add anything else?
JB:  I must finish up by thanking all of the many fans who have been absolutely integral in bringing me back to the small screen in America.  Your voice has been heard and I am deeply touched and grateful. xx Jane

NEW - 08/13/10 - JANE BADLER has safely arrived in Vancouver!  She has a special message for us: "Please thank everyone for all their love and support. I am very grateful and moved."  JANE starts filming on MONDAY 8/16/2010!

NEW - 08/12/10 - "V" Showrunner criticizes first season (Thanks Patrick!)

Producer: 'V' Is Just Too Complicated, Inconsistent

It's no secret that there were numerous problems behind the scenes on ABC's "V." For a start, the series lost its showrunner, Scott Peters, only four episodes in and the overall arc of the story had to be realigned.

However, what may not be apparent is just how directionless the series was after the upheaval and how much work was needed to re-create "V" into a working television series without stepping on the toes of the original four-episode story.

"It was tough in the beginning," producer Scott Rosenbaum told The Futon Critic. "I had to create the mythology but then also back-track it so that it made sense with what the first four episodes" had set up.

In the first batch of episodes, "V" focused more on the arrival of the Visitors and their impact on society, as well as placing them in locations where they could influence the human race. Once the series returned from its extended break for the final run of episodes, the show focused more on the re-emergence of the Fifth Column and hints toward a coming war for the Earth.

However, one thing in short supply was answers on what the Visitors are really up to and why they are so interested in tagging the human race.

"In a complicated show that needs a mythology, you have to have ... answers," Rosenbaum said. "I think the reason the show had some problems in the beginning was because there weren't answers to the questions" being posed.

How will that change in Season 2? Well, Rosenbaum insists he now knows who these aliens are and where they come from ... something that will change -- and maybe even expand upon –- some of the original series.

"Going into Season 2, I spent a lot of time completely solving the mythology [and working out] where [the aliens] came from, where they'd been before Earth [and] why they're at Earth," he said."They're a little different than a typical alien. You're going to understand what they are, how they were created and what they consist of. They're not necessarily just lizards."

"V" is expected to return to ABC in November. It stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Joel Gretsch, Scott Wolf and Morena Baccarin.

NEW - 08/11/10 - ABC"s Press Release:

NEW - 07/27/10 - ABC SHAKEUP BREAKING NEWS - The Hollywood Reporter

In a tremendous executive shakeup, Steve McPherson is stepping down as entertainment president at ABC, while ABC Family chief Paul Lee is taking his place.

McPherson has reached an agreement to sever his deal with Disney, whose ABC entertainment division he has run for six years. Last year he took control of ABC Studios as well, a shakeup that resulted in the departure of studio chief Mark Pedowitz.

“I want to thank the wonderful team of individuals who have worked with me throughout my time [at ABC] and wish them nothing but the best,” McPherson said in a statement. “I will be announcing my future plans shortly which will include a new entrepreneurial venture in the spirits business. While I will continue with my ongoing wine business, I’ll also reveal plans for my involvement in a new media company.”

Insiders are citing Lee as McPherson’s replacement, though ABC has yet to make an announcement.

Lee has been at ABC Family since 2004 and has helped reinvent the network with original programming such as “Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “Greek,” as well as branded events like “25 Days of Christmas.”

Though McPherson was credited for ordering last season’s breakout comedy hit “Modern Family” (which rival studio 20th Century Fox TV produced) he’s had a modest track record in recent years for finding successful shows. ABC routinely develops more programs than any other major broadcaster, yet has had difficulty following up on aging hits like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” — all of which McPherson helped develop while president of Touchstone TV.

Last season, the network tied NBC in the ratings for third place, averaging a 2.7 among adults 18-49.

“They haven’t really done anything major since ‘Housewives,’ ‘Lost’ and ‘Grey’s,’ and none of those shows generate a lot of money going into syndication,” said a rival executive. “There’s a performance failure the last few years. They’ve covered up a lot with ‘Grey’s’ and ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ But it’s a very hollow schedule at this point. There are no hits on the horizon. And while ‘Modern Family’ has done well, it’s not like any of their other comedies that are close to being hits. They spend money like drunken sailors—on talent, on development. For what they’re spending, you’d expect bigger results.”

Insiders also cited McPherson’s temperament. The executive is said to have thorny relationships with other top executives, particularly with Disney/ABC TV Group president Anne Sweeney.

“He just doesn’t play well with others,” noted one industry insider.

Another former insider put it more harshly: “Why? Totally on background? Because he’s f–king insane! The guy’s had one hit in five years. I didn’t see Bob Iger living with it much longer. And [Iger] hated his development. All of it.”

McPherson’s departure has been rumored for months, and even the most consumer-focused of publications began to suspect something was awry when the executive canceled the network’s traditional upfront presentation press conference last May. Since, McPherson has gone quiet, thought that’s hardly unusual for the press-averse executive. Rumors began to intensify this week after McPherson didn’t return to the office following a vacation.

The move comes on the eve of the semi-annual Television Critics Association’s press tour, which begins Wednesday with CBS. On Sunday, ABC will have its executive session. Given that the removal of an entertainment executive before the fall season signals dissatisfaction with the upcoming slate, it will likely be an awkward press tour for the network as it attempts to rally media enthusiasm for McPherson’s final crop of ABC shows.

NEW - 07/26/10 - Old news, but here we go nonetheless: V Season 2 will be returning on ABC in November, 2010. Everyone knows that December usually airs no new episodes to avoid the decreased holiday viewership. Right after the holidays, the show should resume, if we are lucky. The DVD release has also been pushed back to November 2 to capitalize on being closer to the airdate of Season 2.

NEW - 07/24/10 - NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH Direct from one of my friends at the Comic Con panel comes this news:  The moderator asked if we will see any of the original "V" actors and Scott Rosenbaum said SOMETHING like "maybe Jane." (was hard to hear my friend as he was whispering and lots of background noise.

Then later in the panel, Scott was telling some of the story and he let it SLIP ... "And Diana..." and everyone on the panel said, "Who's Diana??" (since most of them never saw the original, they don't know who the character is.)  Scott also said, according to my friend, that Anna's mother DIANA will be seen in the end of episode 1 on the homeworld and we will also receive an explanation of Red Sky.

by William Keck

ABC's V will be holding a panel discussion with its cast at Comic-Con this Saturday in San Diego (2:30 p.m. in Ballroom 20). While it's sure to be exciting, I've already received some early intel on two new characters joining the sci-fi series in its second season.

On the ground, a radical anti-Visitors Fifth Column sect will emerge, headed by a leader the show is currently casting.

But the new role that has me most jazzed: the mother of devilish V leader Anna (Morena Baccarin) will be making her debut. Could this part possibly go to Jane Badler, who played the wicked Diana in the original 1980's V? Executive producer Scott Rosenbaum recently told me he was looking to bring in some of the stars from the original series, so wouldn't casting Badler make perfect sense? I can only imagine the sparks that would fly if Diana and Anna ended up in the same 'mother' ship. Diana is about the only being I can think of who could possibly put Anna in her place, and then take granddaughter Lisa (Laura Vandervoort) out for a gerbil burger.

NEW - 05/13/10 - "V" HAS BEEN PICKED UP FOR 13 EPISODES 2010/2011 SEASON!!!  WE DID IT!

From Variety:  ABC adds more pickups . Six new series a go; "V" draws a second season, ABC's fall TV plans are shaping up. By Michael Schneider.

ABC's fall TV plans are shaping up, as the Alphabet net picked up six new series on Thursday -- and gave a second-season order to "V."

New series orders included the comedies "Mr. Sunshine," "Happy Endings" and "Better Together." Also on the docket: Dramas "My Generation," "The Whole Truth" and "Detroit 1-8-7."

Greenlights came in the wake of the net's "No Ordinary Family" pickup on Wednesday. The Alphabet's big comedy commitment also came a day after frosh sensation "Modern Family" posted a series high in the Nielsens.

ABC exhibited quite a bit of studio balance in its pickups, which included two from Sony Pictures TV and two from Warner Bros. TV. The two Sony laffers also have an Alphabet pedigree: Former ABC Entertainment prexy Jamie Tarses is behind both of them. As for "V," the second season order was expected, to some degree -- but cast even more doubt on the fate of fellow sci-fi entry "FlashForward," which isn't expected to return.

"V" showrunner Scott Rosenbaum confirmed the pickup, thanking the show's fans via Twitter.

From: THR.com:

Fan favs 'Chuck' and 'V' to return next season

V leader Upfronts_blogNBC's "Chuck" and ABC's "V" will get renewed for next season.

Both Warner Bros. shows were on the bubble for a pickup due to borderline ratings, but sources say the shows will be back next season on their respective networks.

Though modestly rated, "Chuck" has been NBC's steadiest show on Monday nights after "Heroes" sank in the Nielsens. While ABC's "V" was a steady performer on Tuesdays after "Lost" since it returned from hiatus and its most recent episode climbed slightly in the numbers. Both shows are expected to receive 13-episode orders.

NBC's "Heroes" and ABC's other sci-fi freshman drama "FlashForward" continue to be in question, however, with the former possibly receiving a short-season order and the latter very unlikely to return.

ABC's 'V' climbs

V UPDATED: ABC's "V" -- on the bubble for a renewal and approaching the finish line for the season -- climbed in the ratings Tuesday night.

"V" (5.7 million viewers, 2.3 adults 18-49 rating) rose 10% in the rating. Not a large bump, yet showing any uptick at this crucial stage could help seal a second season pickup. "V" is already favored for a renewal over fellow ABC freshman sci-fi drama "FlashForward," which also recently improved, but has a lower overall ratings base. Lead-in "Lost" (10.3 million, 4.1) was up a tenth. ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" (12.5 million, 2.5) changed course, rising 4%.

"V" was one of several shows to demonstrate improvement last night despite the NBA playoffs continuing to draw viewers on cable.

Fox was in the lead with "American Idol" (19.2 million, 6.8), up 9%, and "Glee" (11.6 million, 4.8), down a tenth. Season to date, "Idol" is off 9% from last year.

CBS saw "NCIS: (17.2 million, 3.9) and "NCIS: LA" (16 million, 3.3) rebounding strongly from last week's season lows, up 25% and 18%, respectively. "The Good Wife" (12.9 million, 2.4), up 7%, also improved.

NBC had "Biggest Loser" (8.5 million, 3.4) and "Parenthood" (5.9 million, 2.6), the latter winning 10 p.m. CW had "90210" (1.5 million, 0.7) and a repeat.

NEW - 05/12/10 - From Variety:

Fox leads the night as CBS surges with 'NCIS'

By RICK KISSELL

As shows near the end of their seasons, ratings are picking up, including most of the series on Tuesday, where every major net gained week to week. Fox led the night in key demos behind "American Idol" and "Glee," but CBS moved up to second as a surging "NCIS" lifted the entire night.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, performances by this season's final four "American Idol" contestants lifted the show to a dominant victory in Tuesday's opening hour (6.7/18 in 18-49, 18.7 million viewers overall) up 8% from the show's below-par result of the previous week. It was followed by "Glee" (4.8/12 in 18-49, 11.7 million viewers overall), which was the night's top scripted program in all under-50 categories and was in line with its recent deliveries.

CBS saw "NCIS" (3.8/10 in 18-49, 16.9 million viewers overall) bounce back from its own below-average delivery of the previous week, building more than 20% to rank a solid second in 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers. That growth helped lead-out "NCIS: Los Angeles" (3.3/8 in 18-49, 15.9 million viewers overall) show nice gains as well, and at 10, "The Good Wife" (2.5/7 in 18-49, 12.9 million viewers overall), was neck and neck with "Parenthood" for the lead in 18-49 while winning by 2 shares in adults 25-54 (3.6/9). Both "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "Good Wife" led their timeslots in total viewers, and the Eye edged out Fox for the night's lead in overall audience.

ABC is expected to see all three of its shows edge up vs. last week as well, starting with the "Dancing With the Stars" results show (2.5/7 in 18-49, 12.4 million viewers overall), which remained fourth in demos in its crowded hour. At 9, "Lost" (4.0/10 in 18-49, 10.2 million viewers overall) should rise a tick in the nationals for its best numbers since March, and "V" improved its renewal chances by rising week to week to a competitive demo finish at 10 o'clock (2.4/6 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall); even if "V" dips a tick in the nationals to 2.3, as expected, it would be up 10% week to week.

At NBC, "The Biggest Loser" (3.4/9 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) rose 6% week to week to match its best score of the past three months, and "Parenthood" (2.6/7 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall) narrowly won the 10 o'clock hour in demos and edged up vs. last week.

CW saw now gains for its struggling sophomore drama "90210" (0.7/2 in 18-49, 1.5 million viewers overall).

ABC’s night was up overall as well, but not quite as much as CBS’. Dancing With the Stars increased 4% to a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating. Lost was even with last week’s 4.0 rating. And V was up 14% to a 2.4 rating. Could that save the show?

Meanwhile, on 5/9/10, KJ posted the following on his website: "Though Kenny receives a "Created by" credit on the new, reimagined, ABC V series because it is derived from his original work, he is not involved with the series. He wishes the latest new producers well with the show, which does not affect Kenny's ongoing efforts to remake his original classic as a major motion picture. Kenny’s prime desire is to bring big-screen production values to the new V movie while carefully protecting the timeless story, the characters, quality, integrity and substance that make his original V such a favorite of worldwide audiences and  a critically acclaimed, international landmark. Efforts by Kenny and his producing partners to make the right deal for the movie are proceeding well and on a daily basis. Meetings are currently ongoing."  (Thanks Traves!)

NEW - 05/10/10 - From TVGuide.com's Natalie Abrams: It's the V Showdown We've Been Waiting For: Anna Vs. Erica!

In Tuesday's tension-filled episode of V, Anna (Morena Baccarin) and Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) finally come face-to-face as they investigate who assaulted Lisa (Laura Vandervoort). Little does Erica know, she's working with the initial attacker. So what are Anna's motives in breaking her daughter's legs? TVGuide.com caught up with Vandervoort to get the dish on how Lisa's feelings for the Evans family just may save their lives, and what's in store for the "Earth-shattering" finale cliff-hanger.

8 things you should know about V's final episodes

TVGuide.com: What's Anna's motive to attack her own daughter?
Laura Vandervoort:
Lisa failed the empathy test, so the audience knows she has empathy and she's in love with Tyler [Logan Huffman], but Anna doesn't necessarily know that, though she suspects it. Anna strikes Lisa first to make her a pawn in bringing Tyler back on the ship, but then she also says to break her legs, so it's probably a punishment as well.

TVGuide.com: Now we finally know that Lisa has feelings for Tyler.
Vandervoort:
The first half of the season was the question of whether she was evil or not. Now we see she feels for Tyler and we think she has emotions, but then the next scene she's completely evil again. She's juggling a lot of new feelings, but it's apparent that she's really in love.

TVGuide.com: It seems like she's starting to see a real mother in Erica.
Vandervoort:
That's what I was thinking when I was shooting the last few episodes. It's the first time she sees what it's like to have a mother who truly cares about her and wants to protect her; she's never had that. To see that in Erica, it hits a spot in her heart or whatever it is that they have for a heart. [Laughs] Every time she sees Erica with Tyler, she compares it to her own life and sees that she wants the warmth.

V's lizard baby gets a due date — and a tail

TVGuide.com: If she had to harm Erica and Tyler, do you think she'd be able to go through with it?
Vandervoort:
No, not at this point. She'd have issues killing anyone because she really is just about peace. The Vs are her own species, but at the same time she doesn't want them to be bad. Because she's next in line for queen, she needs to really juggle and stay on the fence.

TVGuide.com: Might Anna lose control of Lisa?
Vandervoort:
There's always a chance a mother might lose control of her child.

TVGuide.com: Now that Joshua (Mark Hildreth) is trying to turn Lisa, will that put him in harm's way?
Vandervoot:
He sees that Lisa feels emotions and he's blackmailing her, but she's willing to do it. They're both in danger if anyone finds out, but more so Joshua since he's not next in line for queen. I think I'm a little more protected.

Who will be joining the Fifth Column on V?

TVGuide.com: What can you tease for the finale?
Vandervoort:
There is a huge cliff-hanger. It's Earth-shattering and detrimental to the human race and really shakes up everyone's state of being. A lot of the characters that haven't interacted before will for the first time and Erica does get to visit the ship.

V's penultimate episode airs Tuesday at 10/9c on ABC.

NEW - 05/05/10 - From THR.com:

"American Idol" rakes in $8.1 million in ad sales each half-hour it is on the air, making it TV's biggest revenue generator, according to the listmakers at Forbes Magazine and data from Kantar Media.

Rounding out the top 5 is a tie between a couple of ABC shows: "Grey's Anatomy" and "V," each boasting $2.8 million per half-hour.

NEW - 05/05/10 - From Forbes.com by Lacey Rose on 05.03.10.

From Fox juggernaut ''American Idol'' to ABC disappointment ''V,'' a look at prime time's biggest ad revenue generators.  With the exception of newcomer V, our list is populated by long-running hits. The reason: Unlike established programs, which have the benefit of a viewer track record, new shows trade on expectations, and as Kantar Media Senior Vice President of Research Jon Swallen explains, "Expectations typically sell at a discount to proven performance."

When it comes to new series, media buyers are forced to rely on differentiators like night of the week (Thursday nights, for instance, are more desirable than Friday nights, and are thus more expensive), expected demographic (shows that skew younger tend to be more attractive) and the newcomer's lead-in show (or shows, in the case of a programming block like Fox's Sunday-night animation domination).

But in some cases, advertiser enthusiasm and viewer enthusiasm simply don't match up.

Consider fifth-place V, for which the former trumped the latter. Unfortunately for the enthusiastic buyers who collectively shelled out $5.6 million per hour-long telecast, the remake of a popular 1980s miniseries shed more than a third of its audience over the course of its truncated fall run, from an impressive 14.3 million viewers on premiere night to only 9.1 million four weeks later. Ordinarily that would lead to a pricing correction for subsequent in-season (or scatter market) purchases, says Swallen, "but since V was a limited-run series, it was insulated from potential pricing adjustment."

Still more upsetting for advertisers and network programmers alike: Since the series returned in mid-March, it has continued its spectacular decline. Despite its plush positioning behind the final season of Lost (No. 8 on the list), V has lured an audience about a third of its original size.

NEW - 05/05/10 - From Variety:

And "V" (2.2/6 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) was up week to week and continues to perform perhaps well enough to warrant a renewal. The show has been a big gainer in DVR playback, on average gaining eight tenths of a ratings point and 1.8 million total viewers from its originally reported same-night numbers.

NEW - 05/05/10 - Quick Take for Tuesday, May 4, 2010 - (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

ABC is Up on Tuesday Year to Year for the 5th Time in 6 Weeks. “V” Jumps 16% Week to Week and Boosts the Hour for ABC by 38% in Adults 18-49.  Over the Year-Ago Night, the Only Broadcast Show to Grow its Hour Year to Year Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.) ABC’s Tuesday lineup of “DWTS the Results Show,” “Lost” and “V” continued to deliver impressive year-to-year returns, as the Net was up over the same night last year for the 5th time in 6 weeks. ABC’s numbers surged over the same Tuesday a year ago (5/5/09), also a night of all-original programming, by 1.2 million viewers (9.0 million vs. 7.8 million) and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (2.8/8 vs. 2.0/6).

“V-TUE” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

Jumping by 16% among Adults 18-49 week to week (2.2/6 vs. 1.9/5), “V” continued to greatly improve Tuesday’s 10 o’clock hour for ABC year to year. Versus the year-ago night with original drama programming (1.6/4 – “Cupid”), “V” boosted the hour by 38% and once again made ABC the only net to grow in the 10:00 p.m. hour year to year. CBS (-8%) and NBC (-30%) were both down in the hour from the year-ago night.

“V” finished No. 1 against its CBS and NBC drama competition in the hour with Men 18-49

(2.2/7) for the 6th straight week, topping “The Good Wife” by 29% (1.7/5) and NBC’s

“Parenthood” by 29% (1.7/5).

“V” DVR Update: On average in its 10 o’clock time slot, “V” delivers big gains over its first reported numbers through DVR playback, jumping by 1.8 million viewers and by an additional 8-tenths of an Adult 18-49 rating point (+32%) from the initially reported Live + Same Day Numbers to the Live + 7 Day DVR finals.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 36% currently, from 31% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen. NEW - 05/05/10 - SCOTT ROSENBAUM tells TVGuide.com's Editor, Mickey, "I think V needs more lizards, don't you? — Avi
MICKEY:
Personally, yes. I love lizards! But the creators of the V remake have been aiming for more action than sci-fi — hence the shortage of all things green and scaly. Executive producer Scott Rosenbaum says that won't change. "You won't see the full-on what the Visitors look like underneath [until early in] Season 2," he says. Yes, he said Season 2, and he said it with confidence."

NEW - 05/05/10 - According to a writer for the LA Times: , "V" is NOT on ABC's 2010 Fall Schedule.  Everyone at ABC is tightlipped until the big announcement on May 18.  Let's hope this writer is WRONG, or ABC switches things around at the last minute.  If not cancelled, then perhaps "V" is slated for a mid-season schedule. 8 Things You Should Know About V's Final Episodes - by Natalie Abrams

In the final three episodes of ABC's V, Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) will face off with the Visitors, starting with Anna, according to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum. The end of the season will also bring the birth of a hybrid baby who will be "more alien than human," a brutal attack and a betrayal.

V's lizard baby gets a due date — and a tail

1. There will be more V soldiers: "We will be seeing more of the soldiers," says Rosenbaum. "Obviously Anna [Morena Baccarin] has a whole clutch of them waiting to be born to unleash upon the Earth, but it's not going to go as smoothly as Anna planned it would."

2. There will be alien babies: "You'll see what the baby looks like in the finale. It's going to be more alien than human. The birth is going to become a big deal because it's complicated. Also, Anna will have become aware of the birth, so it will not happen behind her back. The birth will not be what you expect it to be, I promise you that."

3. There will be big realizations: "Chad [Scott Wolf] has not seen anything bad about the Vs," notes Rosenbaum. "The fun of the season is Chad's ultimate realization that he was duped and the consequences, and that's what we're building to. Anna is going to end up having a noose around his neck. You should worry about Chad Dekker."

Who will be joining the Fifth Column on V?

4. There will be injuries: "Lisa [Laura Vandervoort] is going to be brutally attacked. It's going to essentially be an attack by the Fifth Column. The question is: Who attacked Lisa and why? The answer to that will be a pretty surprising one. It all falls into this bigger plan that Anna has. If something bad happens, she can spin it. Lisa's attack will have big consequences for the people on Earth."

5. There will be a showdown: "Anna and Erica will meet face-to-face in the second to last episode. Everything is leading to a major brawl between them. Anna keeps winning, and finally Erica basically says, 'Enough of this, we're taking the fight directly to her and we're going to win.' That episode is Erica's revenge. She's just had enough and the gloves are off."

6. There will be deaths: "[The showdown] is an attack on the Visitors and there will be deaths involved," Rosenbaum continues. "It's an attack that is completely something Erica has come up with. There will be casualties on both sides for the Visitors and the Fifth Column in the season finale."

7. There will be betrayal: "Lisa is the next in line to be queen. The question is: Is Lisa becoming human, is she playing our people or is she setting up a trap for Anna? That's the drama that will play out in the last three episodes. The audience is not going to know which way she's turning until the very end."

8. There will be war: "In the season finale, Anna will essentially take the first shot in the war that's to come," says Rosenbaum, noting that next season will pick up directly where we'll leave off.
